Useful Information | Above is just to give an overview of the standard range, we can manufacture bespoke to suit your requirements. |
Our Magnetic conveyors are perfect for conveying mild steel parts. They are often used for ferrous scrap or small parts, used from outside a press.
They can be manufactured bespoke to suit your requirements, both horizontal and inclined conveyors are available.
The inclined option is manufactured complete with a nose over, this is essential when dropping parts into a container or scrap / swarf bin.
Most Magnetic conveyor projects are manufactured bespoke to the customers requirements, as no one application is exactly the same. However, the product is manufactured to the same tried and tested theme. We offer various length, width, pitch and magnet types options.
We offer various options:
- Electrical controls: from a simple stop, start & emergency stop or a fully integrated control panel
- Paint Colour – We have standard options but can paint to suit your requirements
- Delivery & Installation

What is a Magnetic Conveyor?
A magnetic conveyor is a belt conveyor which uses magnetism to control the movement of items on the belt. The magnetic conveyor working principle is that items conveyed are made from ferrous or iron-containing metals so that these stick to the belt all the way along.
Strong magnets or electromagnets are fixed at intervals beneath the conductive belt to create a magnetic field. The belt is typically made from sheet metal, allowing it to be magnetised at all points, causing any magnetic materials to stick to the belt for the full length. This means that even if the belt is moving vertically, over an incline or decline, as long as the materials conveyed are made from steel and other ferrous metals will be fixed securely in place and carried safely to their destination.
How do I know if a Magnetic Belt Conveyor is right for my business?
Magnetic belt conveyors are often used in situations where iron-containing metals are included in the production process. This might be iron ore in mining, steel parts in manufacturing, cans in food manufacturing, or small parts such as nails, screws and bolts. The conveyor can be customised to accommodate different product weights to ensure the magnetisation is strong enough to hold the material in place. This will depend on what kind of objects you wish to convey with a magnetic or electromagnetic conveyor.
In scrap metal processing and recycling, a magnetic belt conveyor can help with sorting ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The mixed materials are placed onto the belt, which magnetises the ferrous metals, holding them in place as they travel up an incline. Non-ferrous metals will accumulate or fall away, not being magnetised.
- A magnetic conveyor may be right for your business if:
- You regularly convey ferrous metals i.e. iron, steel or other iron alloys
- You need to sort different types of metals for processing
- You manufacture small items from ferrous metals e.g. screws, bolts, batteries, cans, etc.
What type of industry are Magnetic Conveyors used in?
Each magnetic conveyor we supply is custom made to specific requirements, which are determined by the application. There are many industries in which conveying, sorting and manufacturing with magnetic materials are common needs. These conveyors are typically found in:
- Automation
- General manufacturing
- Material handling (scrap & recycling)
- Metal-work
- Medical assembly
Magnetic Conveyor Accessories & Features
At OCON, we offer various options for each magnetic conveyor. An incline can be added to any conveyor and is manufactured complete with nose over, which is essential when dropping parts into a container or scrap / swarf bin.Electrical controls can be designed from a simple stop, start and emergency stop or a fully integrated control panel. We have standard paint colours and can paint the frame to suit your requirements. OCON offer delivery and installation of all conveyors.
Advantages of Magnetic Conveyors
- Magnetic conveyors can be highly useful in material handling and manufacturing settings:
- They are able to convey magnetic materials in almost any direction, including vertically
- Non-slip control over the movement of magnetic objects
- Abrasive, oiled or dirty objects can be conveyed securey without contamination of other materials, increasing work safety and productivity
- They require little maintenance and rarely get clogged or damaged
- Strong magnets are reliable and effective
Disadvantages of Magnetic Conveyors
While magnetic conveyors are extremely useful in their specific applications, the downside is that a magnetic conveyor is not as flexible as a standard belt conveyor, as it can only be used for magnetic materials.
